Managed services
We worked with senior executives from marketing, merchandising, operations and human resources to provide a complete, managed service for internal communications.
The results: Effective communication with everyone seeing and hearing the same thing and efficient use of resources and lower operational costs, due largely to the digital media library we maintained. This allowed us to re-purpose footage as needed for various programs, and recycle across the organization.
The following are some key programs we helped develop, script and produce.
Re-branding Video
Gel helped the Ontario Marketing department introduce the new “Metro” banner and store format to all store employees, and handled all aspects of the production including script and talent. As a way of saving on the costs of a re-shoot, the footage from this program was later re-purposed and used as part of an orientation program for new hires.

Show and Tell Program
Taped in studio and at store level, Metro’s twice yearly seasonal magazine was “brought to life” to store managers in a contents-oriented program produced by Gel, where each department unveiled new products with tips and tools required for a successful selling season. These programs saved the company both time and money as store managers no longer had to be brought in from across Ontario.

Department Standards Video
Initiated by the Operations team, the objective in assigning standards by department was to provide customers with consistent, high-quality shopping experiences regardless of time of day or the store location. Gel was brought to the table to come up with a way of visually communicating department standards to store staff in a series of videos specific to each, including producing one program that showed standards as they related to the entire store.

How-To Video Demos
As a way of ensuring consistency in the quality of store-made products to customers, Gel worked with various full-service departments to develop programs that showed their step-by-step preparation, as well as how to merchandise them to capitalize on sales.

On-boarding & Orientation Video
With Human Resources at the helm, an extensive orientation program was developed to help save time and money in training new hires. Over the course of some months, Gel developed a script, then taped over seven days in two different stores to incorporate both banners – Metro and Food Basics. Designed to be interactive, new hires compete quizzes based on information they receive in the program. Program content helped shape the workbook used by the new hires.

Video Magazine
On a weekly basis, Gel produced a communications program to store staff delivered across the Metro chain. As well as a review of the flyer features, the program included merchandising tips and information on upcoming programs, corporate events and promotions. The News Magazine also recognized employees for excellence in merchandising, as contest winners of industry awards, and shared their success stories. While script was provided by the client, Gel managed all other production aspects including the tight coordination and scheduling required to shoot, edit and deliver a program every week.
